July 3, 2019, Aurora, Neb. — Construction for a complete fiber-to-the-home infrastructure upgrade for the Hamilton Telecommunications exchange customers is on pace and continues to progress this spring.
Hamilton Telecommunications, a leading technology and telecommunications company, is engaged in a multi-year project to bring fiber to all homes and businesses within the company’s local telephone exchange area. Currently, construction is focused on reaching the homes and businesses in Aurora and Doniphan.
More than 1,200 customers have been converted to direct fiber connections, and the company has completed approximately 30 percent of the total project work, which includes burying the mainline fiber and infrastructure to prepare a neighborhood for fiber service.
With a long, cold and wet winter, the frozen ground and uncooperative weather slowed construction over the first few months of the year. ‘’Now that the weather has improved, we are pleased with the progress happening each day in Aurora and Doniphan,” said Pat Shaw, general manager for Hamilton Telecommunications. “Our crews and customer service team are working diligently to keep the project running smoothly and reach customers as quickly as we can.”
Current construction consists of burying drops to homes and businesses in Aurora, which allows the splicing crews to follow behind to connect and install the fiber. In Doniphan, the company is installing the mainline of fiber in the Amick Acres subdivision and fiber site surveys are being completed in the homes. “We also have crews continuing to work in the rural areas of Hamilton County,” Shaw said.
With fiber installation, Hamilton will be delivering some of the fastest Internet speeds in the state, with the highest tier delivering up to 1 Gig in the Whole Home Gig plan.
Whole Home Gig delivers speeds that are eight times faster than the top speed previously offered by Hamilton and ranks among the fastest in the industry, nationwide. All customers will see increased Internet speeds once fiber has been installed in the home.
“We know that the growing ‘Internet of Things,’ including smart home and farming technologies, has greatly increased the need for more broadband,” said John Nelson, CEO of Hamilton Telecommunications. “Fiber-to-the-home broadband is the highest standard of Internet service and will dramatically increase the reliability, speeds and services our customers can receive.” Hamilton is pleased to be on the forefront of this technology as fiber service and 1 Gig speeds are not widely available across the country, or even across the state, especially in rural areas.
This infrastructure will position Hamilton to continue to provide faster speeds and reliable service for many years to come. The new Internet speed plans will be available for customers once they have fiber installed in their homes.
